Two early Autumn concerts included the folk mass ‘Misa Criolla’ by the Argentinian composer, Ariel Ramirez (1921-2010), accompanied by Andrew Barrett (guitar) and Andrew Daldorph (keyboard). This was so well received at our 2013 Christmas concert in Exeter that we decided to repeat it, much to the delight of both audiences. The Latin flavour of the Mass was complemented by a selection of motets by Stanford and ‘Lobet den Herrn’ by Bach, plus some jazzy close harmony to round off the evening, including two guitar/keyboard duets: Nuages by Django Rheindhart and Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma.
Margaret Plows of the Sidmouth Herald wrote: “This is a very talented choir, equally at home with Stanford as with Lloyd-Webber, and this concert showed their mastery of different musical styles. There was everything in this concert; harmony, rhythm, variety of styles, talented individual performances and a sense of fun and enthusiasm for the music”.
