J.S. Bach B minor Mass
Saturday 8th June 2019, 7.30pm,
Exeter Cathedral
Exeter Chamber Choir and Orchestra present Bach’s magnificent Mass in B minor, one of the most moving and joyful compositions in western music. This monumental choral work requires a great building and what a privilege it is, therefore, to be able to perform it in Exeter Cathedral.
Bach himself never heard the Mass in its entirety, completing it just a year before he died, when he was already blind. From the dramatic anguish of the opening ‘Kyrie’ through to the glory of the closing ‘Dona Nobis Pacem’, this sublime music speaks to the soul with truth and power. As one contemporary composer wrote recently “Why waste money on psychotherapy when you can listen to the B Minor Mass?”
