We present some of our favourite a cappella music – modern classics to lift the spirit ‘where happy soules have place’. Frank Martin felt his serene Mass for Double Choir to be so personal that he kept it secret for 40 years after writing. James MacMillan’s Miserere is rooted in the famous Miserere text and chants used by Allegri centuries before. William Harris’s motet Faire is the Heaven moves from quiet reflection to an ecstatic vision of eternity.
To reflect on the season of Lent, we present the first performance of My
God, My God composed in the spring of 2020 by the choir’s musical director Andrew Daldorph.
