We are delighted to be performing in Exeter Cathedral with Exeter Chamber Orchestra and trumpet soloist, Paul Thomas, for this very special Christmas concert. In it we present a celebration of the Annunciation and Birth of Jesus as portrayed by composers over the centuries. Our Christmas journey begins with extracts from J.S. Bach’s “Wachet Auf” cantata, heralding the beginning of Advent, continuing with early musical gems by Monteverdi and Buxtehude.
We conjure up the magic of Christmas with festive treats such as Elgar’s “The Snow”, Morten Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium” and Andrew Daldorph’s arrangement of “Away in a Manger”. The concert concludes with J.S. Bach’s glorious setting of the “Magnificat”.
Refreshments (mulled wine and mince pies) will be available during the interval.
