15th October 2022 The Road Home (Thorverton)

Moorland road to sunset

Exeter Chamber Choir presents a musical journey conjuring the passing of the seasons, of time and of life itself.  The music will transport you from the purity of Palestrina’s magnificent Missa Papae Marcelli to the poetic settings of more modern and contemporary composers, including Ešenvalds and Whitacre – with soft rains and swallows, shimmering sound, falling leaves and the slow-swinging seas – leading finally to Paulus’s gospel-inspired The Road Home. With solo items from soprano Sophie Williams.

Palestrina: movements from Missa Papae Marcelli
Solo items from Sophie Williams – Grieg, Britten, Handel
Charlotte Brennan: Fall Leaves, Fall
Ēriks Ešenvalds: There Will Come Soft Rains
Robert Pearsall: Lay a Garland
Herbery Howells: Take him, Earth, For Cherishing
Eric Whitacre: The Seal Lullaby
Stephen Paulus: Hymn to the Eternal Flame
Caroline Shaw: And the Swallow
Stephen Paulus: The Road Home
